Tell Your Senators: Oppose The Becerra Nomination
One of our worst nightmares could come true. An arch enemy of pregnancy centers may soon become head of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Biden has nominated the CA Attorney General, Xavier Becerra, whose name should ring a bell to you after the landmark U.S. Supreme Court case, NIFLA v. Becerra. If Becerra had his way, pregnancy centers would have been forced to advertise for abortion clinics, or even worse, forced out of business.
We need to fight back!
I’m asking you to send a letter prior to February 19, 2021, urging your senators to oppose this radical nomination.
As a pregnancy center that could be affected if Becerra is approved, we sent a letter to our Wisconsin senators.
I strongly encourage you to write your senators, too. Voice your opposition! This is too important to let slip by.
Below is a sample letter which you should feel free to use/revise. To find your senator’s contact information, click HERE.

Dear Senator _____________,
Re: Opposition to Becerra nomination
I am writing in opposition to the nomination of Xavier Becerra to be Secretary of Health and Human Services. Mr. Becerra is an enemy to every pro-life policy and law and has demonstrated complete disregard for the religious and moral convictions of those opposed to the brutal act of abortion. His radical record in public office as California’s Attorney General and member of Congress lead me to ask you to reject Mr. Becerra’s nomination.
As California Attorney General, Mr. Becerra’s abused his statewide office to target pro-life health centers similar to our organization. Taking pregnancy centers to court to enforce California’s so-called Reproductive FACT Act, Mr. Becerra futilely sought to force government-compelled speech on pro-life individuals who refused to direct women to abortion centers. The law was clearly unconstitutional but Mr. Becerra is so attached to his pro-abortion ideology he took it all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court in NIFLA v. Becerra which ruled against him. This cost the State of California millions of dollars in attorneys fees that he had to pay the successful plaintiffs. Mr. Becerra should not be in charge of such a powerful department as HHS where he could easily continue his attacks against pregnancy centers and anyone else who differs with his radical ideologies.
More recently, Mr. Becerra’s actions to exploit the COVID-19 pandemic to expand abortion demonstrate that he will not let a crisis go to waste. As most Americans sought to direct resources to essential health services, Mr. Becerra led a letter of pro-abortion state Attorneys General who sought to use the public health emergency to lift federal restrictions on chemical abortion under the FDA Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) protocol. Such a change to the REMS would lead to mail order abortion without physician oversight, a situation which could have dire consequences for women and girls. The U.S. Supreme Court again ruled against him in this regard.
Mr. Becerra’s confirmation would be a divisive step in the wrong direction. We understand that the president needs to assemble a cabinet; however, Mr. Becerra has proven himself to be an enemy of the health of women and the unborn. He cannot be entrusted with our national health programs and policies and is not qualified to serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
For these reasons, I ask you to reject his nomination.
Sincerely,
